The practice of gratitude is an essential component of teaching students to take control of their own mental health and well-being. Research has shown that the practice of gratitude is linked to a greater sense of overall well-being and happiness. As a part of the B.C. curriculum, personal well-being is a vital piece of the personal awareness and responsibility core competency. As such, it is important to integrate practices of gratitude in the classroom to teach students a useful strategy for managing their mental health. In keeping with the theme of the conference, “Being in the World as an Educator,” it is pertinent for teachers to recognize the contributions of the people in our local and global communities responsible for the betterment of our lives and to subsequently pass on this value to our students.
The presenter will:

b.) Share teaching practices and ideas for incorporating thankfulness in the K-12 classroom
c.) Facilitate discussion regarding the benefits and practice of gratitude through a critical lens
