Lessons from the Field: Best practices in incorporating place-based learning

Through continuous development with the Home Learners program at the Vancouver Aquarium, an Ocean Wise Initiative, coordinators Rachael and Stephanie have developed a framework that utilizes an inquiry as a method of teaching and inclusive education practices to accomplish new curriculum goals In this presentation, we will discuss this approach to creating a successful place-based program that catered to the diverse group of learners, experience and backgrounds. Learn the key steps it takes to create original programming from scratch, that can be adapted for any level or age, to help students succeed and be engaged in place-based curriculum. . Participants will be able to take and transfer these skills to their respective institutions to create original and inclusive programs regardless of their field or audience.
